topic Question about base configuration in Expedition Discussions

Hi Community,

I have a couple of simple questions. I'm migrating from Cisco ASA to PA3220.

1. The base configuration is extracted from Device>Setup>Export named configuration snapshot>running-config.xml ? Correct. Or is another option like device-state or configuration version ?

2. Is necessary the base configuration is a empty configuration(initial config) or the base config could have some configuration, like 1 aggregate-interface, static route and a couple of sec rules?. Is because the PA needs some config to have access to device. Is because I cannot override the base configuration and loss the connectivity when upload the config migrated.

Thanks for any recommendation or tip.

Best Regards

Andres.

Hello @mss.support ,

Generally yes the configuration is exported that way, you can save different configuration snapshots that can also be extracted and not just use the running-configuration.xml. You also can make other configuration changes from within the Firewall prior to export it doesn't have to be a blank configuration but most of the time it makes sense to extract something blank as it is a clean configuration. As for adding in static routes or aggregate interfaces prior to an import this is perfectly fine to do and will have no issues on the import, once you import and merge the configurations just be sure you verify everything prior to importing it into your palo alto device.
