Office Files Open Very Slowly Over WebDAV Mapped Drive via GlobalProtect (Deep Folder Only)

Dear sir

We are experiencing a performance issue when using GlobalProtect VPN (version 6.1.5-907, protocol: IPSec):

Issue Description:
We use the net use command to map a WebDAV service as a network drive.
For example: net use Q: http://xxx/webdav /user:admin password

When accessing folders located in deep directory levels (e.g., more than 4 nested subfolders) through the mapped drive,
we notice that Office files open very slowly. However, text files and MP4 files open quickly, even at the same deep directory level.

In contrast, when accessing shallower folders (4 levels or fewer), Office files open normally without delay.

What’s strange is that in a local network environment, or when using another VPN (e.g., Fortigate VPN),
Office files open without any issues, regardless of directory depth.

Hi @544871 ,

Based on what you're seeing, one thing that might be causing the slowdown is that GlobalProtect is using IPSec. IPSec adds some overhead because it wraps data in extra headers. Quick question, do you know what protocol your Fortinet VPN is using? If it’s SSL, that might explain why it feels snappier in comparison. If you’re open to it, try switching GlobalProtect to SSL instead of IPSec (either in the portal settings or agent config) and see if that helps with performance.

Also, how does the security policy look on your firewall for this traffic? Office files might be getting inspected more heavily via security profiles enabled. You could also try testing with a dumb policy and remove that to see if that helps out.
