Lost access after pan os was downgraded to 8.1 from 9.0

PA5220 is using 9.1.

Tried to downgrade from 9.1 to 8.1

As a first step downgraded to 9.0

Later, did the same process to downgrade to 8.1 from 9.0

Device came up but credentials are not working

Hi @perumalj ,

PA-5200 is beefy and in my experience needs quite some to start all services and process after reboot.

If I remember correctly there were some changes in the logging between 8.1 and 9.0 (which required log database "migration" at least for Panorama, I am guessing it could also be valid for FW).

I am wondering if the problem was that you haven't been patient enough and FW needed little longer to start all of it related processes

How long after the reboot did you wait before connecting the FW?

Were you able login?

Have you tried the default password?

Is firewall still processing traffic as expected?

Out of curiosity what was the reason to downgrade 9.1 to 8.1?
