&lt;P&gt;I do not think you are missing anything. Only configuration values mentioned in this article can be set as a variable:&amp;nbsp;&lt;A href="https://docs.paloaltonetworks.com/pan-os/10-1/pan-os-web-interface-help/panorama-web-interface/panorama-templates/panorama-templates-template-variable.html" target="_blank"&gt;https://docs.paloaltonetworks.com/pan-os/10-1/pan-os-web-interface-help/panorama-web-interface/panorama-templates/panorama-templates-template-variable.html&lt;/A&gt;&amp;nbsp;The hostname is not on the list. I do not believe there is a way around it. You will likely have to create a template for each Firewall to configure name.&lt;/P&gt;

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Setting up a bunch of new firewalls and would like to push the host names down as a variable in a template.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Doesn't look like hostname is a variable type.&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;Am I missing something?&lt;/P&gt;</description>

From PAN-OS 11.1 and later Hostname has been added as a templet variable:&amp;nbsp;&lt;A href="https://docs.paloaltonetworks.com/panorama/11-1/panorama-admin/manage-firewalls/manage-templates-and-template-stacks/configure-template-or-template-stack-variables" target="_self"&gt;configure-template-or-template-stack-variables&lt;/A&gt;.&lt;/P&gt;
