Hi everyone,

Good day to y'all!

I would just like to seek advise. Now that PCNSE may be retiring, would it still be a good decision to take it this year?

I would love to hear some advise or feedback to those who may be planning to take this certification as well.

Regards,

Renz

It depends on where you are in your learning journey, but keep in mind that the PCNSE is expected to retire by the end of July.

If you believe you can prepare and pass the exam before that deadline, I’d recommend going for it. The PCNSE is still a recognized and respected certification, and it will likely retain its value even after it retires. Plus, it provides a solid foundation for its successors, such as the Next-Generation Firewall Engineer certification.

However, if the timeline is too tight, I’d suggest focusing on the new learning paths right away. A good starting point would be the Network Security Generalist and Next-Generation Firewall Engineer tracks.

Very well said 😀

It is worth noting that all PSCNE certifications will remain active until their stated expiration date, which is two years from the date of issue. Only the exam itself is retiring at the end of July.

It is important to clarify that the PCNSE remains a valuable certification, albeit part of our legacy framework that we are phasing out. The legacy certifications focused heavily on product knowledge validation, while our new framework revolves around role-based certifications. Therefore, there is no direct equivalence between the old and new certifications.

For individuals looking to demonstrate expertise similar to that of the PCNSE, such as in designing, deploying, operating, managing, and troubleshooting Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls, they should explore certifications like the Network Security Generalist, the Network Security Analyst, and /or the Next-Generation Firewall Engineer.

For detailed program requirements, such as those for NextWave, please refer directly to the specific requirements outlined by the program itself.
