Yes correct, thanks for clarifying thought it may cause some asymmetric routing issues. So there is no need to add an explicit static route to forward traffic for 10.20.50.x out from 1/6?

In terms of keeping lab traffic isolated is this in principle fine to use the /24 in the same ip range?

I just have a question about static routing on the palo alto and how it deals with traffic.

We one VR and a default network route to send traffic for 10.20.0.0/16 out via ethernet 1/5 , zone core. There is another interface 1/6 configured with 10.20.50.1/24 zone lab.

On the lan by default all traffic get sent to the firewall. Outbound traffic is going out to internet fine via zone lab.

Is there likely to be any issues with this routing configuration ?

Are you asking if the 10.20/16 route will somehow affect the routing to 10.20.50.0/24? It won't impact due to the lab zone having a more specific prefix.

No need for a static route as long as the network is just that /24. The connected interface will be used for that subnet.

When I'm doing a lab or other space that is completely separate, I use different IP space. Maybe a 172.16 so that it's clearly differentiated from anything production. But it's fine to carve out space from a larger block if you're comfortable with it.
