Hello Community!

We currently use Exchange logs for user-id to map users to IP address's so we can use AD groups for policies, etc. How do you do it when exchange is not on prem and you're using office 365? We used to use domain controllers, however the exchange was quicker at the resolution and any changes to IP's etc since outlook constantly authenticates to exchange.

Just checking to see what solutions others have out there.

Cheers!

hi @OtakarKlier !

The correct answer is .... captive portal... maybe?

The exchange UserID relies on interfacing with the exchange server in a similar way as direct reads from the AD (oldskool microsoft protocols) which is no longer possible once the exchange is replaced with o365.

your alternative is captive portal, or globalprotect

What about ingesting the user-id from SAML with Azure AD as o365 should be using that if I am not wrong?

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/saas-apps/paloaltoadmin-tutorial

You can also try play with the cloud identity engine as it can also sync with Azure ad and feed the firewalls maybe with SCIM.

https://docs.paloaltonetworks.com/cloud-identity/cloud-identity-engine-getting-started/authenticate-users-with-the-cloud-identity-engine/configure-an-identity-provider-in-the-cloud-identity-engine/configure-azure-as-an-idp-in-the-cloud-identity-engine

https://docs.paloaltonetworks.com/cloud-identity/cloud-identity-engine-getting-started/choose-directory-type/configure-a-cloud-based-directory/configure-scim-connector-for-the-cloud-identity-engine
