Hi @ClimbingColorado ,

That is a good point, but you still have lots of options.

Upgrade your PA-220 to the latest code you want before your support license expires. Right now, i would go with 10.2.

You can do LOTS on your NGFW without the licenses. It will still be very good for a training resource. You do not need a license to do firewall, routing, IPsec, NAT, GlobalProtect (Windows and MAC), Threat and App-ID (no updates), etc. You just won't have access to updates.

Thanks,

Ownership & Support Transfer?

Hello,

I recently purchased a PA-220 off of eBay for training purposes. The device has support through 30 June 2024. What is the process to transfer ownership of the device and support to me? I bought the device from an e-waste recycler; I don't know who the original owner was.

Cordially,

Hi @ClimbingColorado ,

First of all, kudo for the name. I lived in CO almost 10 years, and I loved it.

Second, here is the PANW secondary market policy. https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/services/support/support-policies/secondary-market-policy

Third, the PA-220 is End-of-Sale. So, it cannot be re-certified. See the 2nd bullet in the URL above. Sorry! I know that is a bummer.

Thanks,

Total bummer that Palo Alto doesn't allow transfer of support for used equipment. Also unfortunate that there are transfer fees for ownership changes. The policy seems adversarial to people wanting to use the second hand market for training resources. I've been unable to get any info on where to buy a new PA-400-LAB either. Maybe that's why people stick with Cisco?

Thank you for the information, Tom! I appreciate the details on the PANW secondary market policy and the End-of-Sale status for the PA-220. Solved my problem also.
