tl;dr use the command "cu" instead of "screen".

I have been trying to factory reset a PA-3200 for about 45 minutes. I am using a standard RJ-45 to DB9 serial cable with a USB serial adapter. Following the instructions I get to the step where I have to select the factory reset and it says "maintenance reason". Hitting "q" to go back a screen just brings me back to that screen. For some reason the "screen" command on Mac send extra characters. I believe it is sending \r\n and the PA is interpreting both as "enter" so it goes all the way into the wrong screen. According to what I have read, there is no way to get "screen" to stop doing that.

The command "cu" does not do that.

If you are in a similar situation replace the line where it says to use "screen" with:

"sudo cu -s 9600 -l /dev/tty<your tty>"
