Hi,

Ive purchased a 2nd hand macbook pro ( 2024 model ) literally just a few hrs ago, now from Facebook Marketplace, and upon trying to set it up - it takes me to a Recovery screen.

I then try to Install new MacOS

& it comes up with 'this device is owned by Palo Alto Networks'

Im not gunna act smart, but i have no idea wtf that actually means..

I choose to 'enrol' - and it says something about contacting 'PANDA' - through here..

So can someone PLEASE help me out..

I hope i havent been stitched-up..

To be direct: the message you are seeing means that this specific laptop is still registered in PAN's corporate device management system. When a company owns a device, the serial number is locked to their internal servers for security and setup.

Unfortunately, this usually means one of two things:

The device was previously used by an employee and the company forgot to "release" the serial number from their management system when it was decommissioned.
The device was lost or stolen and has been sold second-hand without being authorized for release.

Since the device is asking you to enroll in "PANDA" (PANs internal IT portal), you will not be able to bypass this screen or use the laptop as a personal device. We cannot "unenroll" it for a third party via the community forums.

My recommendation:

Contact the seller immediately: Ask for a full refund and let them know the device is locked to a corporate entity.
Report the listing: If the seller is unresponsive, you should report the transaction to Facebook Marketplace and your payment provider.
