No, a factory reset will not permanently lose your licenses. It erases the configuration and local license information from the PA-500, but the licenses remain associated with the device in your Palo Alto Networks support account. After the reset, you may need to reconnect the firewall to the Palo Alto Networks licensing server and retrieve/activate the licenses again. Make sure you have a backup of the configuration before performing the factory reset.

Hi @Ladynet ,

In order to get better traction for this I've moved your question to the general discussions area.

PAN-OS 8.1 will be supported on, PA-500 Series until the hardware end-of-life date (October 31, 2023). I'm guessing the same applies to your licenses (if they don't expire before that of course) ... please check with TAC first for a confirmation.

Cheers,

Hello,

The license info will be wiped from the device after the reset. However once its back online, have it reach out to the internet and grab licensing.

You can use the following day 0 config.

https://live.paloaltonetworks.com/t5/general-articles/secure-day-one-configuration-not-for-the-faint-of-heart/ta-p/435501

you actually don't need a license to do an upgrade, but a non-licensed device will not be able to download software versions from the update server, so you will need to do that part manually
