PAN OS 5.0.2 missing route

Did anyone see this situation.

We have PA 3020 running 5.0.2 and a route based vpn to another PA box.

unable to ping the other side of the tunnel or even the other side's tunnel interface IP address.

Weird issue never seen this before.

Anyone see this before? Please let me know.

you mean your tunnel is up and vpn is working ?

yes tunnel is up between the two gateways

but no traffic is going through the gateways.

IPSEC status shows UP.

cleared the arp.

rebooted the firewall.

didn't help at all. This was all working fine until this morning.

Then as a last resort, removed VPN config and re-built it from the scratch and that got it working.

The puzzling thing is " what happened that killed the connection" every thing was working just fine and then this.

Weird!!
