L2 "switch" ports?

Hi All,

Am I right in saying if I configure a selection of interfaces (in this case on a 3020) as L2, and then assign them to a VLAN with a L3 VLAN interface all those ports will sort-of act like a switch (or more likely a hub)?

A bit like the handful of ports you get on some Small office firewalls (thinking Juniper SSG, sonicwall, and some fortigate appliances?)

From the administrator's guide:

For each Ethernet port configured as a Layer 2 interface, you can define an additional logical Layer 2 interface (subinterface) for each VLAN tag that is used on the traffic received by the port. To configure the main Layer 2 interfaces, refer to “Configuring Layer 2 Interfaces” on page 125. To enable switching between Layer 2 subinterfaces, simply link those subinterfaces to the same VLAN object.

Once you've configured the VLAN object, assign the Layer 2 subinterfaces to the same VLAN object, you should be able to use the firewall as a switch. I wouldn't suggest this configuration in an enterprise environment, but for a lab or home, it should be fine.

Precisely my thoughts... not keen on using this in production at all!
