HA interfaces link fail questions

According to manual, active-standby cluster..

• If one HA interface fails, synchronization continues over the remaining interface. If the state synchronization connection is lost, then no state synchronization occurs. If the configuration synchronization is lost, heartbeats are lost. Both devices determine that the other is down, and both become active.

HA1 - Control link

HA2 - Data link

"If one HA interface fails, synchronization continues over the remaining interface."

Q1. Does it mean if HA1 link failed Control lnformation will go through HA2 instead and vice versa?

Q2. How does it affect the HA status? which one will active and whcih one will standby?

"Both devices determine that the other is down, and both become active."

Q3. Does it refer to the situation that lost of connectivity for both HA1 & HA2 at the same time?

Please help to further explain the statement above.

Hi Raymond,

Are you referring to 4.0 admin guide or new technote based on 4.0? If this is the case:

1. in 4.0 we can have backup HA1 so when the primary HA1 is down, the backup one will keep on doing config syn. HA1 job can never take up by HA2.

2. If all heartbeat (HA1) die, both will be active

3. Lose of heartbeat will be the case. So if you are using 4.0, always try to have heartbeat backup.

The above statement can be found in both 3.1 and 4.0 Manual.

Beside the backup HA1 link (management port) in 4.0, can you further explain...

Q1. "If one HA interface fails, synchronization continues over the remaining interface" what does it mean? But you said HA1 job can never take up by HA2.

Q2. You said "If all heartbeat (HA1) die, both will be active". Do you mean if HA1 is die (and HA2 is OK) then both will be active?

Q3. How about if HA2 die (and HA1 is OK), what will happen?
