Old OS versions

I have serveral version of the OS under the device\software tab, is there first any harm to deleted old unused ones and will I regain disk space, a usefull amount?. I want to keep more logs on the box and am looking for ways to increase the space for logging. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

clearing out old PANOS versions will clear up space in the /panrepo partition, but logs are stored in /panlogs

when deleting old images it's best to check which version is installed in the 'backup' partition:

> debug swm status

in my example you can see i'm currently active on 7.0.3 and am awaiting upgrade to 7.0.4

this means both sysroot volumes are on 7.0 and so i can safely remove all 6.1 images. if your secondary sysroot is still on 6.1, you will need to keep 6.1.0 as base plus the maintenance version currently installed.

the way to 'create' more space for logs is by changing log quotas so desired logs have more space and less useful logs are pruned or installing centralized logging like panorama or a syslog server which could offer virtually limitless storage capacity

beware changing the logdb quota on the firewall may purge the log files
