Unable to downgrade PA 5220 to 7.1.x series

Dear All,

When I tried to downgrade the firmware version to 7.1.x in 5220 with 5000 series os, It throws an error and from the software upgrade column, I don't see 7.1.x populated in the list.

Could you please let me know whether PA 5220 supports 7.1.x OS Platform.

Why do you think that there are dedicated images for every hardware platform?

So - no, PAN-OS7.1.x is not supported on PA-5220 firewall which is also documented here: https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/documentation/platforms/pa-5200-series/pa-5200-series-hw-ref/pa-5200-series-firewall-overview

there actually are dedicated images per hardware platform, the PA-5000 platform however is not the same hardware as the PA-5200 series, so the images for PA-5000 are not compatible with PA-5200 devices (this is because different platforms have different hardware chips so need different drivers)

The new platforms are introduced in PAN-OS 8.0 so don't have access to older OS

Your probably lucky that this didn't actually work; if it would have loaded and allowed you to install the image you would have a nice paper weight waiting to be recovered.

The good news is this gives you a very good reason to upgrade your firewall and make a business case to getting the funds to actually do it.

The newly released platforms 800 and 5200 series platforms only support the 8.X train of PAN-OS
