Best practice for OSPF

So i have a Pa850, it has lots of vlans off it.

1 vlan connect to the other OSPF routers. I have OSPF on there. But what about the other interface - is it better to add them as passive OSPF or redistribute connected ?

My opinion,

Set them up as passive. KISS Principle: You won't have to deal with redistribution and they will NOT show up as External routes.

PS - While you're at it, try to avoid VLAN interfaces on your PANs. Use tagged subinterfaces instead if you can. This makes the config easier to deal with and you don't have to write any Layer 2 zones/rules.

I guess it would depend on how your network is setup and what you need to redistribute vs just learn.

yes thats what i do

trunk - tagged interfaces off that... not the vlan interface.

Had a play with it and the passive for each interface looked a lot nicer

Fantastic Alex,

I've run into that myself. The kicker is not having those routes show up as External to OSPF. Just cleaner and easier to work with IMO.
