Hi,

Imho, I think it depends on Max Sessions generated, and isn't simple determining it in advance by users.

You could have 100 users making 1.000 concurrent connections or 100 users making 500 concurrent connections, it depends!

You could have web surfers, web gamers, internal users, simple users...and everyone of this could generate different TCP/UDP sessions...

So, you have to focus on Max Session number, assuming about 5 concurrent connections per user.

There are many metrics that come into play, including max sessions, sessions-per-second, arp/forwarding limits, etc.

There is no hard and fast rule, but I typically recommend the following. There will be exceptions:

< 30 users - PA-500

30 - 200 users - PA-2020

200 - 500 users - PA-2050

500+ users - PA-4000 series

Also, different environments will have different requirements (e.g. protecting web servers vs. protecting users). Throughput requirements are important, but are not always the most important metric when it comes to sizing.

Cheers,

Kelly
