Hi @Luke_R ,

I suppose you mean agent vs agentless userID.

This topic was discussed several times in the past.

Some of these discussions are old but may still be useful and give you some direction on which choice to make :

user-id-agent-or-agentless-user-id

user-id-on-box-best-practice

Here's also a KB article that touches on the differences/benefits of both solutions:

Agentless User-ID Preferred Number of Connected DCs

In a very VERY simplistic approach I'd say, if it's a small environment -> clientless 🙂

Cheers,

Hi,

I'm digging deeper into User-ID agents, and I'm aware that I have two options; The Windows agent, and the PAN-OS agent.

If I have a Windows domain, and no other directory services, is the Windows agent the best choice?

Is there any benefit to configuring both? Or is this completely unnecessary?

Thanks!

As @kiwi mentioned client-less is preferable but if you really want to cover all your bases you can also deploy the GP agent to each machine which will aid with user-id and can be configured to recognize it is on the enterprise LAN so it does not attempt a VPN connection when on the "Home/corp" network
