While learning more about Palo Alto firewalls, I put together a guide on how to update a pair of firewalls in HA.

protip: you don't need to install the base image, downloading it is sufficient to move on to the desired maintenance release

(one exception is really really old hardware platforms, that have limited disk space and may not be able to unpack both the base and maintenance packages for installation)

protip2: while it is a good idea to land on a x.1.x release for 'longterm support', the early maintenance release versions (x.x.1 through x.x.4 or even .5) should be considered immature and not be run in a production environment unless a feature is absolutely needed

protip 3: you can also control the functional/suspend state from device > high availability > operational commands
