topic Papercut Mobility Print - NG-Firewall - Application in General Topics

We are moving more and more from Citrix, to working on the laptop. A lot of out users are used to "printing" there documents for the next day, so when comming into the office, they just walk to the printer, present there RFID-tag, and presto.

We use Papercut, and in the new setup, users should be able to access our Papercut server on port 9163 / 9164 TCP. (Windows / Mac client).

https://www.papercut.com/help/manuals/mobility-print/set-up/system-requirements/#firewall-rules

IPP/HTTP

9163 TCP

IPPS/HTTPS

9164 TCP

I've got this working, but I would also want to use the application feature of the firewall, not just letting the port through.

It looks like IPP over HTTP traffic, but I can't find an application in our firewall.

Has anyone done this before.

there is a papercut app but it's set to ports 9191 and 9192 so if you're not seeing this application show up in the sessions it may be a slightly different implementation

you could reach out to support to have the app amended to include your use-case or you could create a custom app to identify the traffic: you'd need to capture some sessions and see if there's any payload that is common across all connections, then build a custom app using this signature
