If you have the gp portal available on the same fqdn, then I recommend not to configure it this way. Because the portal should also be available from the inside. If the portal is on another fqdn, then it will work perfectly fine.

In the PAN video I located on Internal Host Detection (see below), it shows where to enable this feature. But it doesn't mention what is expected of the IP Address and Host Name. Should one use the internal IP/name of the PAN? Or something else?

And if an internal gateway is not set - the client will just not form a tunnel nor do HIP checks etc. Is that right?

We have InTune doing HIP checks so I don't need another layer here.

https://live.paloaltonetworks.com/t5/best-practice-assessment-network/agent-config-internal-host-detection-bpa-checks/ta-p/298086

Hi @MichaelMedwid

What you should use there is simply any internal IP/FQDN which cannot be resolved outside your network to make sure that the client does not connect to the gateway when it is internal.

And yes, without an internal gateway gp will also not send hip reports anywhere when the computer is in the internal network. (Even with an internal gateway the default is configure it without a tunnel so that it could be used only for HIP and user-id)

So if the GP Agent is set to connect to gp.acme.com and that resolves to the outside of the PAN when outside the network, and gp.acme.com resolves to the address of the inside of the PAN when on the internal network, that should do the trick. Right?
