In our scenario we just want a single interface to use for access to resources behind the firewall where multi vsys exists. It appears that when i try to access resources from outside to in the zone i am hitting is that of the shared gateway and its denied.

More on this scenario. It results in a problem when you have more than one interface on the inside of the vsys using the external zone shared gateway. It results in your policy not matching one of those inside interfaces.
