I have been working with Palo Alto Networks devices since 2012 and one of the more confusing topics that I have helped with has almost always been: How do I activate, register or license a Palo Alto Networks device?

Although you may be able to search the Live Community and find an article or two that explains how to do this, there has not been a single place to visit and see how to accomplish this for all Palo Alto Networks devices and software.

Good news, everyone! A page located off the official Technical Documentation site has all this information in one handy dandy place.

So, no matter if you want to register a PAN-OS 7.1 firewall or activate WildFire or or Panorama or anything in-between, you can find all this information on that page.

Here is a list of the software on this page:

  • Aperture
  • AutoFocus
  • Cloud Services
    - Logging Services
    - GlobalProtect cloud service
    - Magnifier
    - Cloud Services App Activation
  • GlobalProtect
  • Panorama
  • PAN-OS
  • Traps
  • VM-Series Firewalls
  • WildFire

The Activation, Registration and Licensing page is here:

Thanks for taking the time to read. If this info was helpful, please leave a thumbs up (like), so I know that it helped someone.

As always, we welcome all comments, questions, and suggestions in the comments section below.

Stay secure!

Great article as usual!

Great article... however... I'm rather new here.  I purchased a PA-200 brand new on eBay and I want to register the device so I can get software updates.  I wasn't able to sign up for a support account because I was missing the customer number.  Am I going about this wrong?

@whowe82,

You'll likely want to reach out to contact_sales@paloaltonetworks.com or call 866.320.4788 or 408.753.4000 to actually get a support contract so that you can update the device.
