VM-Series firewalls often need to be deployed, provisioned, and configured via APIs, which cannot be done when the PA-VM management interface is set to a static value (192.168.1.1). To bypass this bump in the road to deployment, DHCP client mode has been introduced in the management interface.

Support for RFC 2131 (sec. 3.14 & 4.3.1) and RFC 6842 is included:

  • 'Send Hostname' option
Sends the currently-configured firewall hostname in the DHCP request as part of DHCP Option 12.
  • 'Send Client Identifier' option
Causes the management interface to send its client identifier as part of DHCP Option 61.

Supported DHCP functions:

  • IP Address
  • Netmask
  • Default Gateway
  • DNS Servers (primary & secondary)
  • NTP Servers (primary & secondary)
  • Domain (DNS Suffix)

dhcp client

Accept DHCP server provided Hostname

  • If checked, allows the firewall’s hostname to be provided by the DHCP server.
  • If unchecked, the firewall will ignore the hostname field in the DHCP response.

Accept DHCP server provided Domain

  • If checked, allows the firewall’s domain to be provided by the DHCP server.
  • If unchecked, the firewall will ignore the domain field in the DHCP response.
