VM-Series firewalls often need to be deployed, provisioned, and configured via APIs, which cannot be done when the PA-VM management interface is set to a static value (192.168.1.1). To bypass this bump in the road to deployment, DHCP client mode has been introduced in the management interface.
Support for RFC 2131 (sec. 3.14 & 4.3.1) and RFC 6842 is included:
'Send Hostname' option Sends the currently-configured firewall hostname in the DHCP request as part of DHCP Option 12.
'Send Client Identifier' option Causes the management interface to send its client identifier as part of DHCP Option 61.
Supported DHCP functions:
IP Address
Netmask
Default Gateway
DNS Servers (primary & secondary)
NTP Servers (primary & secondary)
Domain (DNS Suffix)
Accept DHCP server provided Hostname
If checked, allows the firewall’s hostname to be provided by the DHCP server.
If unchecked, the firewall will ignore the hostname field in the DHCP response.
Accept DHCP server provided Domain
If checked, allows the firewall’s domain to be provided by the DHCP server.
If unchecked, the firewall will ignore the domain field in the DHCP response.
