Cyber attacks are a daily occurrence. “During 2021, a cyberattack occurred every 39 seconds. The world experienced a ransomware explosion, which will likely continue its upward trajectory in 2022,” says Danny Lopez, CEO of Glasswall. Combating the issue, companies have increased hiring cybersecurity professionals. Though the U.S. unemployment rate recently reached a low of 5.4%, the cybersecurity knowledge gap remains high. Cybersecurity Ventures states cybersecurity employment opportunities increased 350% since 2013. According to eSecurity Planet there are about 435,000 openings in the US alone.   We aren’t telling you anything new. Unemployment is down, but demand is high for cybersecurity experts. 76% of IT decision-makers experience critical skills gaps on their teams – a 145% increase since 2016.   The shortage is not insurmountable, but it takes investing in people, process and technology – especially people. Research has found technical training and certifications provide a long-term skills gap solution.   Read more in our article here: https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/blog/2022/03/closing-the-cybersecurity-knowledge-gap/

Firewalls are not just hardware anymore. With the emergence of SaaS applications, cloud implementations and remote users a firewall in your data center is not sufficient to meet today’s security needs for the enterprise. Join us for a series of webinars where we will discuss the Firewall as a Platform - or, as we like to call it - FWaaP.   Register here: https://paloaltonetworks.zoom. us/webinar/register/WN_ FaNU3TNqSxW_9szo15rXdg What is App-ID? This month we will be discussing Application Identification, which is used across PAN-OS and is part of what makes Firewall-as-a-Platform what it is. Imagine being able to differentiate between more than 1,500 different browser-based applications running on port 80 and 443 and being able to gain visibility and control over all of them. How can you tell the difference between DNS running on port 53 and some zero-day Command and Control channel running on port 53? App-ID gives you the ability to do this.   Please join us on Tuesday, June 29 at 11 am Pacific/ 2pm Eastern to hear more about App-ID.

Cybersecurity Academy: 1 of 4 Pillars for Global Enablement    What's new with us? Growth and evolution!  We've grown to over 1,000 academies globally, even during COVID-19. Universities, colleges and high schools are reaching out to Palo Alto Networks, as the world's largest cybersecurity company, for the best academic education in this rapidly evolving field. Our new 4-course fundamentals series aligns with our Strata, Prisma and Cortex product lines, as well as the new PCCET certification (replacing the PCCSA). Academies are now in 70+ countries globally.     What else is important for you to know? Our I&D focus! Did you know that the Cybersecurity Academy program has been tasked with a vital Inclusiveness & Diversity goal: to increase the number of minority-serving education institutions in our program by 15% per quarter? And we have continued to meet and exceed that goal. We are partnering with University Relations to recruit alumni from these academies to address our company goal for a more diverse and inclusive workforce.   What is the difference between Education and Training? Education typically refers to academic courses at campuses, while training is often professional development. The 4 pillars of Palo Alto Networks Global Enablement (also called Education Services) are: Instructor-Led Training, Digital Learning, Certification, and Cybersecurity Academy. All 4 align with our product lines, which means that regular (and often significant) updates are required from each team.  Instructor-Led Training leverages partner-trainers to deliver professional development to working professionals whose employers often cover the cost. These include lab practice (currently all virtual). Digital Learning provides free online courses for any individuals to take at their own pace. There is no lab practice.  Certification develops and maintains industry-recognized certifications that validate the knowledge and skills needed to work with PANW products. These play a big role in helping individuals start their cybersecurity career or advance in their current career pathway. The Cybersecurity Academy education program is uniquely targeted to accredited academic institutions at no cost, as part of Palo Alto Networks' corporate social responsibility efforts. Universities, colleges and high schools teach our courses to their students across an academic calendar, often by semester. Our program includes courseware, faculty-training, and teaching tools (assignments, labs, exams, grading, and much more). Our blended learning model (in the classroom and online) has effectively pivoted to address the current need for remote teaching and learning where classrooms are not yet reopened. Why is the Cybersecurity Academy valuable to Palo Alto Networks? SALES ENABLEMENT. We work closely with Sales teams to leverage our relationships in academia around the world, to help open doors for the sale of Palo Alto Networks products and services. We track and measure these wins for the company by tagging SFDC leads as Academy-sourced, and keeping a database of internal and external testimonials (often including dollar amounts for deals we enable). TALENT DEVELOPMENT. We help build top talent for Palo Alto Networks and its partners/customers, with (1) student competitions that showcase capabilities and leadership using real-world attacks; and (2) courses that develop a global community of product-loyal professionals. We partner with HR and UR to engage these experts-in-the-making as interns and new hires. Would you like to learn more about the Cybersecurity Academy? Ignite ‘20 proved that even in a year full of uncertainty and changes, the future of cybersecurity continues to become stronger and more valuable. As Palo Alto Networks most awaited annual premier conference, Ignite ‘20 remained attune to COVID-19 transitions by transforming into a digital event. This completely virtual experience enabled tens of thousands of viewers to access the groundbreaking security innovations for cloud, network, and security operations.   For Global Customer Services and Global Enablement, Ignite ‘20 presented the opportunity to expand our Education Services outreach. The unique, fully virtual environment of the conference allowed us to reach an audience size greater than we ever have before. Interest in training and certification was heavily recognized throughout Ignite, both increasing awareness of our programs and helping us empower more learners interested in cybersecurity.   Ignite ‘20 had an entire track dedicated solely to Training and Certification. Education Services developed and presented two Fundamental training sessions for our product content tracks: Cloud Security Demystified for Prisma and SOC - Making Sense of All the Noise for Cortex. Each of the five certifications, including the two latest certifications, had 90 minute certification prep sessions available for anyone interested in learning more about certifying. We produced three hour training sessions pulled directly from Instructor-Led Trainings that featured ATP instructors and live product demos. In addition to presenting an abundance of content, we also staffed an expo floor booth dedicated to Education Services with specialized coffee tables for both Certification and Academy programs. Q&A office hours were held following events to provide direct responses to attendees who were unable to get their questions addressed during the event. With more than 35 hours of content, our offerings ended up being a third of the entirety of offerings available at Ignite. This year’s Ignite conference marked the first time Global Enablement has had such a big presence in this overall platform.   Our biggest success involved the extremely high levels of engagement we experienced in each of our sessions. Multiple sessions exceeded capacity and maxed out on attendance. The feedback on all training content was positive and the content selection and presentation styles were very well received.   With normal informational sessions, it is common for metrics to result in passive viewership. However, the level of engagement in our sessions was astonishingly active throughout Ignite ‘20. For instance, our training sessions included polls utilized to ask attendees sample questions about the content we were teaching. Each of the polls resulted in high levels of interaction with more than 80% of participants answering questions throughout the three hour training sessions. The distribution of answers across the polls was great as well; from an exam perspective, we expect a broad distribution of answers if the questions are sufficiently challenging, and that is what ended up being the case for a majority of our sample questions. Both the high level of engagement during our training sessions and the distribution of answers in polling show that our sessions are truly making an impact with learners.   The total attendance of sessions hosted by Education Services, with 18,847 attendees, was huge in and of itself. We have never touched the sheer amount of people that Ignite ‘20 brought on board--this presents an exciting path for the future of Global Enablement and Global Customer Services. With the large and constantly increasing number of attendees interested in and interacting with our offerings, it is clear that the cybersecurity education delivered through Palo Alto Networks Education Services is as important and valuable as ever.   By the end of Ignite ‘20, we distributed more than 4,000 certification vouchers to people who participated in the certification prep sessions. They are now moving forward in their education journey to becoming certified.
