Can Nested Groups be used in the PAN (when using Group-Mapping)?

L3 Networker

Hello,

   We are on PAN-OS 5.0.8 and use PA-5050, PA-5060, PA-200 (test boxes) and PA-3020's.

We use the User-ID Agent running on VM servers.

   I have a couple questions,

    1) When the PAN "loads" the group membership from our LDAP instance... we get the users that are part of the AD Groups we have "Group-Mapped"... Which is good and as expected.  But if there are Groups 'nested' in an AD Group - they don't show up.  Is there a way to get the 'nested' group members "loaded"?

    2) Should Universal Groups work like Global Groups?

Thanks for your time and help!

Only parent group will be kept for Group-Mapping containing all users including those from nested groups (underlying ldap queries for nested group users will be managed by useridd process)

Assuming that nested groups are not in the included list.

This can be represented as a single group with the members from all nested groups... EXCEPT if the nested groups are from another trusted domain. In that case their members will not be in the parent group and they will each need to be added to the security policy.

Universal groups will work only if the group has just users in them and no other groups. This is not commonly done. So if there are any groups listed within universal groups, then this is not recommended as it will result in many user/group mappings not working correctly. Recommend to always use domain global groups.
