Do BGP and OSPF have to have same router-id on a virtual router ?

L0 Member

Hi,

I'm running BGP and OSPF on same virtual router and whenever I commit a change, I get the following warning:

   In virtual-router VR_1, BGP router-id 1.1.1.1 is different from OSPF router-id 10.1.1.1.

Since I'm getting warned about it, I'm thinking it probably is preferred for BGP and OSPF to have same router-id on a given virtual router. It's not causing any issues but I'm really curious about why it keeps warning me about it. anyone has an idea?

thanks!

There is no functional requirement for the RID to be the same (hence why this is a warning instead of a commit failure). It's easy to see how this could lead to a confusing situation for administrators, however, which is presumably why the PAN-OS devs decided to display a warning.

Thanks for your reply! I figured it wasn't required by Palo Alto since it's only a warning as you said. I just didn't know why it warns about it. I thought that the warning is leading me toworad following some best practice or something.

thanks for your answer again!
