Fan RPM defaults for a 3020

Not applicable

I recently purchased a PA-3020 and just fired it up for the first time.  The first thing I have noticed is how loud this device is.  It is almost deafening and can be heard in the hallways behind a door in my server room.  Is this typical behavior?  I check the fan RPM speeds and all four are registering around 14k.  I called support but they stated that this is the default behavior of the device.  I find this very hard to believe.  Can anyone else with a 3020 weigh in on this?  Are the fans in your device running at the same RPM as mine?  Is yours extremely loud?

I think support is correct.it is not a device working noiseless and this is normal behaviour.

Here is our one of the 3020 rpm values

S1Fan #1 RPM                      False  14160
S1Fan #2 RPM                      False  14112
S1Fan #3 RPM                      False  13967
S1Fan #4 RPM                      False  13590

Hello Rayb,

Once you will power up the PAN firewall, first few minutes the fan will rotate at a high speed. But after that, it would come to a normal state.

Output from a PAN 3020 FW:

----Fans----

Slot   Description                         Alarm     RPMs Min RPM

S1    Fan #1 RPM                          False    14361  2500

S1    Fan #2 RPM                          False    14313  2500

S1    Fan #3 RPM                          False    14312  2500

S1    Fan #4 RPM                          False    13729  2500

Thanks
