Can I upgrade my PAN-OS 5.0.5 to PAN-OS 5.0.8 to fix the problem?

Hi,

It could be that high volume of traffic is being passed through the unit at a particular time causing the CPU to spike up. If that's the case then 5.0.8 will not fix this issue. We need to track down the root cause of the CPU spiking up this much. You can actually find out from the ACC tab the source of the problem if you have a time frame as when the CPU spiked.

Thanks,

Hello Maut,

Before upgrading your PAN to 5.0.8, we need to see what is causing the dataplane to go 100%.  It could be because the PAN is actually getting maxed out in terms of throughput and packet/second or it could be a genuine hardware/software problem.

Are you seeing any core files getting generated  during those spikes?

Basically, issues like these need to be looked deeper for root causes and recommendations.
