PAN-DB URL Filtering - WEB ADs wrong classification!? - google domain

L0 Member

Hi,

We have just switched from Brightcloud DB to PAN-DB database, in the first few days everything was ok, but we have just noticed a problem with PAN URL Filtering and WEB Ads category,  domain doubleclick.net (google Ad domain that is used on most sites) is categorized as Business and Economy??? In our security policy we block Web Ads category, and because this is not in that category al communication is going trough. We have requested a category change but with no effect.

Funny thing is that Palo Alto as an example of a site for Web Ad page states doubleclick.net :

https://knowledgebase.paloaltonetworks.com/KCSArticleDetail?id=kA10g000000Cm5hCAC

Every other official/non-officila URL DB states this domain as Web AD (Brightcloud, Forti, Cisco)...what is going on?

The main landing page for doubleclick.net is a regular business portal where companies can go to do the things they do with their web advertising

The  actual ads are run from ad.doubleclick.net which is classified as web-advertisements

PAN-DB can have different classifications for the same TLD depending on the subdomain 😉

Main landing page is:

https://marketingplatform.google.com

Not doubleclick.net

Ok, let's get exact, domain:

adclick.g.doubleclick.net

in Category Business and Economy?

This is a direct web page AD URL....

Matter of fact is that ADs are going trough on sites on PAN-DB, and all above domains are in WEB AD category in every other DB except Palo Alto DB....this is a serious problem....

interesting, have you reached out to support yet? this may need to be investigated

No, we did not report to support at this point (but we will), as this is a general issue regarding PAN URL Classification process in general for every user on PAN DB...i was hoping that PAN representatives are active in this community and to exchange feedback with other users...

We are here to assist in any way or capacity we can, but we can't open support cases for issues that require deeper investigation

I can't change the URL from my end either so that needs to go through the official channels 😉

in the meanwhile you can use dynamic lists or blacklists inside the URL filtering profile to block all doubleclick connections

That is already in place, but that is not a permanent solution in that regard. We will forward this issue to official support channels.
