Password problem

L1 Bithead

HI All,

I last logged into our VM-300 on friday 23rd August to make a SSL Decryption config change and attempted to login again yesterday. However all of a sudden my admin password doesn't work. I'm the only one who knows the password anyway, so no one else has access to it. There are two admin accounts and neither password works now. The only account that still works is the service account for our Aruba wireless, however that doesn't have admin access anyway so is useless to me in real world use. The admin interface is now accessible outside of my organisation, and internally only a handful of computers have access to that vlan anyway.

Does anyone have any advice? I'm running 8.1.9 and this update was installed before my last successful login attempt

Thanks,

Chris

If you've locked yourself out without committing (changed passwd but no commit), you can recover through reboot If you've locked out with a commit, the only way back in is through maintenance mode, by recovering from a backup configuration or via factory reset This is a firewall after all 😉

Could you have changed the admin interface ssl profile? You could try booting into maintenance mode and loading a previous/backed up configuration, boot up, load your before-last config and commit Then you can load your latest config and troubleshoot what could have gone wrong

In this case I genuinely haven't changed any of the passwords, they've just randomly stopped working.

Just an update to this.

Can confirm that no passwords were changed. Passwords were set to expire every 90 days(and it had been 90 days since we setup the firewall). However rather than alerting me, the date just passed and the password expired, locking me out.

So friday evening I'm doing a factory reset, importing the config again & then creating a new admin account(plus modifying the password expiration time).

Should the firewall have alerted me on login that the password was about to expire?

There's a setting you need to configure for a warning to be displayedpassword lock.png

I'll remember that one when reconfiguring it on Friday! 🙂
