So my question is pretty simple.
How are timeouts handled on these devices. Does it matter if I have rules based on services vs. applications?
We have our global settings on the box set for TCP 3600. We have rules that are service based and ones that are application based. When the firewall identifies the application is seems like it defaults to the application timeout vs our global settings?
I realize these can be changed from app to app. Just want a solid understanding of what to expect when troubleshooting issues.

Even if you use service or application to block or allow traffic in the policy. Since application is being identified and the traffic is being passed through the application engines. Whatever the timer are setup in the application it will honor those. However if you disable application check using application override then you can setup whatever timeout values you want. However when you use application override it does not pass through any scanning engines.

Hope this explains why you are still seeing the application timeouts. Moreover you can create app override either for one or all the ports/traffic.
