yes, this is possible
You will need to manually download the software image from the support portal and upload + install it on the firewall
I have done the same steps but unable to ugrade to latest version .
After that i have register the device and upgrade autoatically .

I somewhat remember issues being present if the firewall was never registered/upgraded prior attempting to perform a manual upgrade. Although I don't have a way of verifying that at the moment, I recall encountering a similar issue on a PA-500 at a customer who had simply never even registered the box and never did an upgrade while under support.
You should be able to update the dynamic ones in a similar fashion as the software. Download it from the suport site and manually upload and install it.
