URL Filtering and White listing

L1 Bithead

hi All,

I want to whitelist a website *.vrdropandshare.com/

So forexample, i have added *.vrdropandshare.com/* to the white list, then further down the list if i add following:

*.vrdropandshare.com/index.php?r=api/index&code=RBrGlEf10oVDgZcfcAc_6yhjc/
*.vrdropandshare.com/index.php?r=site/webgl&code=RBrGlEf10oVDgZcfcAc_6yhjc/

*.vrdropandshare.com/index.php?r=site%2Fwebgl&code=RBrGlEf10oVDgZcfcAc_6yhjc/
.vrdropandshare.com/index.php?r=site%2Fwebgl&code=RBrGlEf10oVDgZcfcAc_6yhjc/*

Now my question is adding anything specific url below a general would make any difference how the Palo analyses them.

so , the whole thing i added is follows:

*.vrdropandshare.com/

*.vrdropandshare.com/*

*.vrdropandshare.com/index.php?r=api/index&code=RBrGlEf10oVDgZcfcAc_6yhjc/
*.vrdropandshare.com/index.php?r=site/webgl&code=RBrGlEf10oVDgZcfcAc_6yhjc/

*.vrdropandshare.com/index.php?r=site%2Fwebgl&code=RBrGlEf10oVDgZcfcAc_6yhjc/
.vrdropandshare.com/index.php?r=site%2Fwebgl&code=RBrGlEf10oVDgZcfcAc_6yhjc/*

What is the effect of adding the more specfic urls , do i need them or just *.vrdropandshare.com/* will cover everything that is contains *.vrdropandshare.com/* will be allowed. Please comment generously.

Thanks in advance.

Imran

*.vrdropandshare.com   will cover all options.

you don't need to use *.vrdropandshare.com/*

from Palo Alto....

Note: a /* is implied at the end of any URL entered so adding it manually is not necessary. For example, www.site.com/* is interpreted the same way as www.site.com.

Hi Mick,

How sure are you on this, as i have tried this in the production and sometimes it does not work and i have to add so many combinations like *.vrdropandshare.com/*

Can you please give me a few more examples or a bit of more explanation on that. Kind regards

Imran

could you post the full url that you are having issues with.

please also note that *.vrdropandshare.com will include domain.vrdropandshare.com but not vrdropandshare.com.

for this you will need *.vrdropandshare.com and vrdropandshare.com.

*.vrdropandshare.com and vrdropandshare.com are same arnt they ?

Nope.  the "." is a legal seperator,
