Symptom


When trying to commit, an error message with "Schema Verification Failed" is displayed.
Example.
Invalid configuration. Schema verification failed.
vsys -> '' is invalid. vsys name should begin with 'vsys'

 


Environment


  • Palo Alto Firewall.
  • PAN-OS 7.1 and above.
  • Commit Process.


Cause


This schema verification error may occur due to corruption in the candidate configuration.

Resolution


Make note of any pending configuration changes by performing a config audit:

  1. Go to GUI: Device > Config Audit
  2. Select "Running config" and "Candidate config" and click Go.
  3. Document any changes present in the Candidate configuration that are not present in the Running configuration. These changes will need to be reconfigured manually.

Revert the candidate configuration back to the running configuration and perform any necessary configuration changes:

  1. Go to GUI: Device > Setup > Operations
  2. Click on "Revert to running configuration"
    Note: Reverting to the running configuration will remove any pending changes that were present on the candidate configuration.
  3. Make any noted configuration changes (from the previous candidate configuration).
  4. Issue a Commit. The commit should complete successfully.
