Error Message After Software Upgrade: System Initializing; Please Wait

Symptom


After attempting a software (PAN-OS) upgrade, the Palo Alto Networks firewall displays the error on the console: "System Initializing; please wait". This is followed by a continuous reboot cycle or stay stuck.

Resolution


  1. Perform factory reset on the Palo Alto Networks firewall.

  2. Login with the default admin credentials after the Palo Alto Network device reboots to completion.
    admin/admin
  3. Reconfigure the management interface IP:
    > configure
    # set deviceconfig system ip-address 'x.x.x.x' netmask 'x.x.x.x' default-gateway 'x.x.x.x'

    # commit force
  4. Continue the configuration through the management WebUI
