How to View the Installed and Latest Versions of PAN-DB

Overview

When using BrightCloud, the versions available for downloads can be found under Device > Dynamic updates > Url Filtering on the web UI. However, this is not the case for PAN-DB updates. This document describes how to view the version of PAN-DB installed on a Palo Alto Networks firewall and determine the latest available version for download.

Details

The show system info command only displays the version of PAN-DB installed on the firewall.

For example:

> show system info

   .....

url-filtering-version: 2013.06.10.107

   .....

To view the version installed on the firewall, as well as the version available on the cloud, use the show url-cloud status command.

For example:

> show url-cloud status

PAN-DB URL Filtering

License : valid

Current cloud server : s0200

Cloud connection : connected

URL database version - device : 2013.06.10.107

URL database version - cloud : 2013.06.10.107 ( last update time 2013/06/11 15:54:22 )

URL database status : good

URL protocol version - device : pan/0.0.2

PAN-DB does not have daily updates, instead the URL entries are retrieved from the cloud server as needed. The Palo Alto Networks firewall automatically checks for the updates, and system logs are generated every 8 hours indicating if the latest URL-filtering database was downloaded or not.
