Overview

The maximum numbers of vwire subinterfaces which are configurable by the user are as shown below:

  • Maximum virtual wire subinterfaces:           4091
  • Maximum virtual wires with subinterfaces:  2045

Details

For the PA-5050/5060, the maximum number of virtual wires with subinterfaces and virtual wire subinterfaces are:

  • Maximum virtual wires with subinterfaces:  2048
  • Maximum virtual wire subinterfaces:  4096

Note: For additional platform specifications, see the Palo Alto Networks Product Comparison page.

The maximum virtual wire subinterfaces value includes 5 pre-allocated interfaces shown below.

Excerpt output from the following command:

show interface all

name                id    vsys zone         forwarding          tag    address
------------------- ----- ---- ------------ ------------------- ------ ------------
dedicated-ha1       5     0                 ha                  0      N/A
dedicated-ha2       6     0                 ha                  0      N/A
vlan                1     0                 N/A                 0      N/A
loopback            3     0                 N/A                 0      N/A
tunnel              4     0                 N/A                 0      N/A

Subtracting 5 from the max vwire subinterfaces results in 4091, as the user-configurable vwires.

Dividing 4091 by 2 results in 2045, as the max number of user configurable vwires with subinterfaces.
