Symptom

A web page hosted on a company web server can be used as a Response Page. This may be useful to present Response Pages depending on the user's language or present pages with rich content.

Environment

  • Palo Alto Firewall.
  • Any PAN-OS.
  • Response Page.

Resolution

  1. Create and save a clear-text ANSI file containing the following code:
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; url=http://www.example.com/">
    </head>
    </html>

    Note: For this example, the file is saved as "url-block-page.txt" and used as the HTTP Redirect for a Block Page. For https sites, use https://www.example.com/ in the HTML code.

  1. Select the Response Page to customize (GUI: Device > Response Pages)

  1. Browse your computer and add the plain text file you just saved, to Destination: shared

  1. Click OK. A 'shared' Location will be listed on the Response page, which means the Custom Response Page has been loaded.

  1. Commit to complete the configuration. Blocked pages will now be redirected to http://www.example.com/

Additional Information

We have a limitation on the custom block page size, around 10,000 bytes. Even if an error message about the size exceeding the limit is not displayed during import, if the response page is not returned, please try with a smaller block page (10,000 bytes or less) or the default block page and see if the response page is displayed.
