When Does a Change to the Admin Password Become Active?

Resolution

If the local admin’s password is changed either on the GUI or CLI or config import, it is loaded into the active user database immediately and any new logins with that user will require the new password. However, it is not stored in the running configuration file until a commit is performed on the device. When a commit is pushed, the new password is saved to the running configuration.

If the device is rebooted or if the management-server is restarted prior to a commit, the changes will be lost and the password will be reset to the version before the last commit.
