PAN-OS 7.1 WebGUI Update

by on ‎02-24-2016 12:38 PM - edited on ‎10-04-2016 08:20 PM by (32,158 Views)

One of the many improvements Palo Alto Networks accomplishes with PAN-OS 7.1 is an updated WebGUI. With PAN-OS 7.1, all platforms, including Panorama, will be updated.

Note: When switching contexts on Panorama, the GUI will match the version on the target firewall. The GUI will change from PAN-OS 7.1 to PAN-OS 7.0 and earlier GUI.

Following are examples of the different screens in the WebGUI from PAN-OS 7.0 (before), then PAN-OS 7.1 (after) to show differences in the WebGUI. In these examples, functionality remains unchanged, only the appearance of the GUI changes between PAN-OS 7.1 and PAN-OS 7.0.

There is still some work to do on the new WebGui.

I like the whole "flat" idea but the font on the tabs and headers of the widgets on the dashboard are not very clean (looks squized together and too big). To be honest, my opinion is that the font is ugly.

The yellow on the menu's, headers and policies is a little too much. It's off of the other colors. Too bright.

Agree completely.  I like the new look overall but that font is really rough to look at.  Even the kerning seems wrong.

Does the webgui have any flash elements? After I installed Flash in my browser (will disable it now), I find I'm prompted to allow the webgui URL to run Flash. But I can't find any reference to flash or swf objects in the web source.

I've found two locations containing flash. Both are in the the javascript declared within the source of https://<device>/#dashboard::

<script src='/scripts/cache/3rdparty.javascript?__version=1474683248' type='text/javascript'></script>

<script src='/js/3rdParty/ext/ext-all.js?__version=1474683021'></script>

Both of these contain the string "swf" in their code, so I think one or the other is causing Flash to load. But why? The WebGUI works perfectly well in a browser that doesn't have Flash or has it completely disabled. Why bring Flash into the picture at all on a firewall management interface, where security should be paramount?
