QoS upload problem (300Mb ghost limit)

L0 Member

Good morning everyone.

I am writing to ask for help regarding the QoS configuration to manage upload bandwidth.

Situation:

2 PA-460 installed inside a school (12 branches), with 2 external interfaces (eth1/7 ⇒ ADSL, eth1/8 ⇒ MPLS) and 2 internal interfaces (ae1 ⇒ Personnel Offices, ae2 ⇒ Classrooms).

We currently have a “QoS Download” profile successfully configured on the “ae1” and “ae2” interfaces, everything works great.

The problem comes when we try to configure a QoS to limit the upload bandwidth, in particular regarding the classrooms, which exit from the eth1/7 interface.

The maximum bandwidth available from our ISP is 1Gb.

We have created a "QoS Upload" profile without any bandwidth limit, neither maximum nor guaranteed. Within the profile there is only the class 4, medium priority and this too without bandwidth limits.

As soon as we activate the QoS on the eth1/7 interface, setting the "QoS Upload" profile and without  any “QoS policies”, the upload bandwidth is immediately cut to 300Mb.

If we try to set a lower limit (for example 50Mb) the bandwidth is effectively cut to the set limit.

What we can't understand is where does this limit of 300 come from, that isn't written anywhere?

What are we doing wrong? What we miss?

Thanks to anyone who wants to respond.
