Replacing PA500 with PA220

L3 Networker

Currently have a PA500 (in virtual wire mode). Ordered a replacement PA220. I followed the instructions on connecting to the new unit and assigning a new IP address. It too is in Virtual wire mode. I need to understand how to transfer my configuration to the new unit. Also need to understand how to connect the device to the production network without taking down the network (lol).  I am assuming I can just connec a wire to vw 2 port? Just want to confirm. Thanks!

you wont be able to do the switchover without interrupting the network

depending on how complex your configuration is, you should b able to simply export the configuration from the PA-500 and import it onto the PA-220 (if there are no interfaces used that the PA-220 does not have, for example)

you could disable the switchports that will hold the PA-220 vwire and hook the device up to the network, doublecheck your configuration and then when you're ready to go ahead, enable the ports and disable the PA-500 ones (this would probably be the shortest interruption possible)

Thanks for the feedback. I was able to transfer my config. I figured out that after importing the config one has to load it as well.

Ah yes, and don't forget to Commit 🙂
