URL filtering for a School

Not applicable

I am using a Palo Alto 500 to filter url content on a school network. I have blocked streaming media but some sites like college humor still go through. How can I block all streaming video, also I would love to able to block flash games. I am new at using the Palo Alto so if you have any suggestions on other application to block that would be of great help too.

Thank you.

Using URL filtering is a start however this will only block sites that are identified as sources for this type traffic (netflix, youtube, hulu, etc.) You will also want to precede your URL filtering rule with a rule that blocks the streaming media application.

To block streaming video on a Palo Alto firewall, you can create a security policy that blocks traffic to and from streaming video websites. Here's how you can do this:

  1. Log in to the Palo Alto firewall's web-based interface.

  1. Navigate to the Policies tab and click on the Security subtab.
  2. Click on the Add button to create a new security policy.

  1. In the Source field, select the network or networks that you want to block streaming video for.
  2. In the Destination field, select Any.

  1. In the Service field, select the service or services that are used for streaming video (e.g., HTTP, HTTPS, RTSP, etc.).
  2. In the Action field, select Deny.
  3. In the Description field, enter a description for the policy (e.g., "Block streaming video").
  4. Click on the OK button to save the policy.

  1. Click on the Commit button to apply the changes.

To block Flash games, you can create a similar security policy, but in the Service field, you would select the service or services that are used for Flash games (e.g., HTTP, HTTPS, TCP, etc.).

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
