GlobalProtect - Frequent Reconnections

Hi there,

I’ve got a team member who loses VPN connectivity every 8-10 minutes at his home office. It disconnects and promptly reconnects. This is a recent phenomena, as it worked perfectly the two months prior to this.

The VPN functions perfectly for everyone else, it functions perfectly when he’s in office, but as of this week he’s facing frequent connectivity problems at home.

He has Spectrum cable, and his internet seems fine otherwise - he frequently streams 4k off the clock, speed tests come back normal, his wife is on a separate VPN  on her PC as well for her job (not sure which) and they have been working from home simultaneously for the last two months without hiccups or interference.

I don’t have a log yet as he is in the office today. Any clue as to what could be the cause of frequent disconnects exclusively for him, exclusively at home?

He keeps his laptop plugged into power at all times at home and at work, and the problem persist whether he’s on WiFi or Ethernet at home.

@DaveManDownThere,

Whenever you're dealing with an issue on one device that's only present on one network, it's fairly safe to say it's a localized network problem. Doesn't really matter that it's worked for two months prior without issues or two years, it just tells you that it is a new issue instead of an existing issue.

The best thing you can do is pull logs from the endpoint in question and review the PanGPS.log file; why is the agent dropping the connection? Do you see in your GlobalProtect logs that they're falling back to SSL? Do you have SSL fallback enabled, or are you seeing them constantly flap between SSL/IPSec?
