Palo Alto DHCP Relay Stops Working After Reboot

L1 Bithead

After rebooting the firewall due to a power activity, we noticed that the DHCP relay stopped working. We could see the DHCP Discover and Offer messages in Wireshark, but the firewall’s DHCP relay did not seem to function properly.

The firewall was running PAN-OS version 11.0.4-h5, and we upgraded it to 11.0.4-h6 to see if the newer version would fix the issue. Unfortunately, the problem remained.

After deleting and rebuilding the DHCP relay configuration, the issue was resolved.

We’ve also come across several articles on the Palo Alto community mentioning the same issue with DHCP relay after a reboot, specifically with PAN-OS versions 11.0.x. It seems to be a common problem, and redoing the configuration works as a temporary fix.

We would like to know if this is a known bug in PAN-OS 11.0.x, and if so, has any fix or patch been released to address it?

Looking forward to your thoughts and any solutions.

Hello,

You might want to put in a ticket with support for this issue. In the release notes they do show some dhcp issues but not a fix yet.

Not sure about 11.1x.

Regards,
