Working through this at the moment. The panos_op module has been added as of Ansible 2.5 which permits arbitrary operational commands (like request content upgrade check and the like) http://panwansible.readthedocs.io/en/latest/modules/panos_op_module.html Looking to combine that with parsing the output for now. http://docs.ansible.com/ansible/latest/network/user_guide/network_working_with_command_output.html Kind of silly considering the kind of issues Ansible (and others) was intended to solve. Feels like classy screen scraping given the lack of a module.
