High Disk Space Usage on / root partition of Panorama

L1 Bithead

Hi All,

We are experiencing high disk space usage on the root partition of Panorama.

Critical alerts on Panorama is showing "Disk Usage for / exceeds limit, 100 percent in use, cleaning filesystem".

Output of "show system files" is as follows:

@panorama> show system files

/opt/panlogs/cores/:
total 0

/var/cores/:
total 1.8G
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K Mar 11 19:18 crashjobs
-rw-rw-rw- 1 nobody nobody 1.2G Apr 21 11:06 core.4789
-rw-rw-rw- 1 nobody nobody 1.2G Apr 21 12:01 core.19234
-rw-rw-rw- 1 nobody nobody 0 Apr 21 13:43 core.17814
-rw-rw-rw- 1 nobody nobody 755M Apr 22 10:12 core.8880
-rw-rw-rw- 1 nobody nobody 725M Apr 22 12:50 core.28182

/var/cores/crashjobs:
total 0

Output is showing core files are generating daily.

Details of Panorama is as follows:

model: Panorama
vm-mode: VMware ESXi
sw-version: 10.1.12
system-mode: panorama
operational-mode: normal
num-cpus: 32
ram-in-gb: 65
panlogs-partition-in-gb: 31
logdb-version: 10.1.2
device-certificate-status: Valid

I found one KB article related to this but it shows how to clear the disk space.

High Disk Space Usage on / root partition and How To Clear - Knowledge Base - Palo Alto Networks

Could you please assist:

Can we configure if root partition reaches to 80% then it start cleaning files system automatically and what would be the impact on logging of this condition?

Why the core files are getting generated daily?

What can be done to fix this issue?

Is there any configuration can be done on Panorama to avoid root partition high disk usage?

Please let me know if you need further information.

Regards,

MS
