Global Protect Captive Portal allowing defender to see other devices on network

L0 Member

Hi,

Our security team is seeing Windows defender able to probe guest wifi at hotels and see other devices like phones and laptops on the network, until Global Protect can finally connects to one of our gateways. They want the network restricted to just the captive portal for the hotel until connected to a gateway. Anyone know what can be restricted outbound while the captive portal part is happening. Also what viability to devices on the hotel network, have our our devices?

Many Thanks,

Mike

have you tried setting:

- in portal > agent > app > Enforce GlobalProtect Connection for Network Access (to prevent network connectivity until GP is connected)

You will need to increase (up from 0) the Captive Portal Exception Timeout so there's a little grace period to connect to the captive portal. to help speed up the process you can also set a page (like your corp website) in Automatically Launch Webpage in Default Browser Upon Captive Portal Detection which will ensure a browser is launched as quickly as possible

Thanks for the reply. Eventual traced it to the 'Allow traffic to specified hosts/networks when Enforce GlobalProtect Connection for Network Access is enabled and GlobalProtect Connection is not established' setting.
